Morning all, this is my first time on the message board and wanted to ask everyone how they felt about having the surgery.  I went to the seminar last night about the rny and it sounds like a way that I need to go.  Can you let me know your stories.....please.  Julie

Great to hear all the good feedback, I've made my appointment with the surgeon and I was a little nervous, but 115 pounds is awesome.  I go up Rt 4 every day to get to DC so yup we're almost neighbors.  Thanks for the post, I'm hopefully on my way to a new life as well.  Julie

If I would have known what I know now, I would have done this years ago...feel free to read my story on my profile (it's a lot to type here)...I am getting ready to hit a year post-op from RNY and I could not have asked for anything more!!!  If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask either on here (people are really friendly and helpful) or PM me....Good Luck Julie! I'm hearing that no one has had any regrets, which is great.  I'm excited and scared all at the same time.  I'm diabetic now and have to take shots, so getting rid of those AND putting on a pair of jeans that has a button and a zipper will be awesome.

Julie, I am still preop (scheduled for sugery on 7/24) but I wanted to welcome you and say you're doing the right thing to research, research, research.  You should also check out the DS and the DS forum.  I was originally sold on the lapband, then realized it wouldn't work for me, then looked at the RNY, then discovered the DS.  Given your diabetes etc, this may be an option for you.  Take care, Nancy

Hi Julie, You are definitely doing the right thing by asking about others experiences.  Everyone walks this journey a bit differently than the next person, but generally we all experience the same things, to one degree or another.  Short answer to your question...YES, a resounding 100% YES, I am happy with my decision to have surgery.  The results have exceeded my expectations.  (I think that a part of me didn't believe my life would change this much or that I would actually succeed!)  It has not been smooth sailing.  I had a couple of minor (although at the time they felt more major) issues in the beginning.  I felt like crap for about 3 months, with no energy and a very sensitive pouch.  However, by 3 months out things started to get better and I am totally happy with my surgery.  You can read more of my story in my profile (organized from present day to the past) but I am happy to answer any questions you might have if you want to PM me.

By the way, I have lost 113 lbs, have maintained that for nearly 4 months and will be having a Lower Body Lift done on Aug 14th.  Life is so wonderful now, I wouldn't change a thing. Hugs, Robin

Hi Julie- I can put my feelings about my surgery in one word. Estactic!!! On 10/12/06 I was 252 lbs. As of my 9 month check up, I have lost 60% of my excess weight. I am now 165. I have had few issues since surgery. No one can expect to be issue free. Thankfully, this website is here to help you through those issues. I had lap RNY. My diabetes is resolved. I used to take 10 medications a day. I am off all of them. Good luck!!!

Hi Julie and welcome,    This surgery has changed my life. I had it Aug 18 2006 almost a year ago. I was almost completely bedridden and now I have my independence back. I can drive again, shop, walk, I swim 5 days a week. It is amazing. I didn't weigh right before surgery (wish I had) but I am down a total of 180 lbs from my highest weight ever. I lost 40 or so before surgery and I am still losing and feeling better all the time. My clothes have gone from 6-7x and no jeans to a 20 jean and an 18-20 shirt. I am thrilled I had the surgery. My story is too long but if you want to talk feel free to email and we can exchange numbers because I am not online alot. If you can come to our support group it is listed here and it is in Crofton and always welcome everyone. We have a meeting Aug 2, 2007 6-8pm at the crofton library on Reidel Rd. Have a great day. Love Laurie
